From its foundation, the main objectives of CIS Semillas have been activities focused towards Research, Development, Production and Marketing of seed for the local market and for export. The central idea have been to make use of the comparative advantage of Chile, in relation with other countries, which added to a team with great Know How, have been able – from the beginning – to become leaders in the seed business.

   It is a great pride for us to have become a 20 years experienced company, dedicated to research, production and seed marketing for the local and for the export market. We have done it honestly, with seriousness, dedication, technology, efficiency and great affection for the Chilean farming.

  There is no doubt that in this 20 years the seed industry, worldwide, has experienced huge changes, not only in technology, where tremendous improvement have been achieved, but also in the concentration of big companies as a result of mergers and purchases. It is most likely that in the last five years there have been more changes in the ownership within the seed industry than in all their previous history.

  CIS Semillas S.A. has had the vision to adapt in time to this new changes, allowing us to get access to the best genetics in crops such as corn, sugar beet, alfalfa, grass and canola, which are turned over as a benefit to the local farmers in a more reliable way.

  CIS Semillas S.A. started in 1986 as a Joint Venture between Chilean and Dutch partners. As of today it is an independent company, with 100% Chilean shares, exporting seeds to the world with Chilean farmers acting as real partners.

  The future provides us with new and very interesting challenges. The use of transgenic seed is already a reality in many countries and Chile will have to take a decision. There are already crops with transgenic traits which benefits the farming management. The next revolution will come through the use of transgenic crops allowing the production of insulin, immunologic products, etc., which favours directly the human health. Safflower is one of them. On the other hand, the development of bioetanol factories using corn or wheat and of bio diesel factories using Canola are also big opportunities which the local farming will have to take advantage.

  As always, we will be there, together with the farmers, walking these new paths with them, using the seed technology which may be needed.
